چکیده

Abstract. In northern rivers, turbulent water becomes supercooled (i.e. cooled to slightly below the freezing point) when exposed air temperatures. water, frazil (small ice disks) crystals are generated in column, and anchor starts form on bed. Two formation mechanisms have been reported literature: either by accumulation of suspended particles, which adhesive (sticky) nature, riverbed or situ growth bed material. Once has formed bed, typically continues grow (due further and/or crystal growth) until release occurs due mechanical (shear force flow buoyancy accumulation) thermal (warming column weakens ice-substrate bond) forcing a combination two. There number detailed laboratory studies literature, but very few field measurements processes reported. These relied sampling accumulations from qualitatively describing observed release. this study, custom-built imaging system (camera lighting) was developed capture high-resolution digital images riverbed. A total six events were successfully captured time-lapse images, for first time, different initiation, growth, measured field. Four stages cycle identified: Stage 1: initiation growth; 2: transitional phase; 3: linear 4: phase. Anchor three events, remainder, appeared be initiated deposition. The 1 rates ranged 1.3 2.0 cm/h, 2 3 varied 0.3 0.9 cm/h. releasing modes: lifting entire accumulation, shearing layers rapid accumulation.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

In situ continuous growth formation of synthetic biominerals.

Continuous self-assembled growth of both the organic and inorganic components of materials with nacre-like structure is achieved upon mineralisation of chitin and chitosan scaffolds using a combined soaking method and the inclusion of poly(acrylic acid) and chitosan oligomers as additives.

Contrail ice particle formation in the wakes of airliners - insights from in-situ measurements and modelling

The role of soot and volatile aerosol in controlling ice particle formation in cirrus clouds is of global importance for climate. In particular, contrail studies may help to better understand the role of various aerosols in ice formation. Recent results suggest that contrails may contribute a large share to the climate impact of aviation. Hence, better knowledge on contrails is needed for devel...

Precision Measurements of Ice Crystal Growth Rates

I describe techniques for making precise measurements of the growth rates of the principal facets of ice crystals. Particular attention is paid to identifying and reducing systematic errors in the measurements, as these have plagued earlier attempts to determine ice growth rates. I describe the details of an experimental apparatus we are currently using, and I describe some preliminary results ...
